William Edgar McCulloh was my great-grandfather. William’s first wife, Mary Sweigert, died in 1892 after the birth of their child, Archibald. In 1894 William married Maria Gsell, my great-grandmother, who gave birth to 13 children, 10 of whom survived to adulthood. William died in 1938 and Maria in 1960. His many children and their families gathered together from time to time and at some point by the 1970s these gatherings had become a formally organized annual family reunion. In July 2006 I attended the McCulloh family reunion near York, Pennsylvania for the first time in over 20 years. I really didn’t know very many of the 83 people in attendance and due to time limitations my wife and I really didn’t get to meet many of our various relatives. On our 600 mile drive home to Indiana we came up with the idea of this “on-line reunion” web site where we could get to know a little more about each other through shared stories, history, news and photos about the McCulloh family.
